Travis Nolting
Head Coach
Travis Nolting is entering his eighth year as the Head Football Coach at Greenfield-Central High School. When he took over the program in 2019, the Cougars were coming off a winless season. Since then, Coach Nolting has led a remarkable turnaround, compiling a 42–32 record over seven seasons. Under his leadership, the program has produced 12 All-State players, numerous All-Conference selections, and multiple collegiate athletes, including four who advanced to NCAA Division I programs.
During his tenure, the Cougars have broken numerous school records and achieved some of the most successful seasons in over 50 years.
Before joining Greenfield-Central, Coach Nolting spent eight years at North Central High School in Farmersburg, Indiana, where he served as Head Football Coach, Assistant Principal, and Athletic Director. At North Central, he led the Thunderbirds to the first football sectional championship in Sullivan County history (2018), coached two Mr. Football Finalists, (Chase VanSchoyck 2013, Dawson Basinger 2018) and developed numerous All-State and All-Conference players.
Coach Nolting resides in Greenfield with his wife or 22 years Lexie and his two sons Draven, a current sophomore and the starting quarterback at GC and Jaxon "Honey Badger" a current 8th grader and standout runningback and linebacker.

Nate Murray
Assistant Coach
Coach Nate Murray is entering his first season on the Cougar Staff. He brings a lifelong passion for football and a strong foundation of leadership to Greenfield-Central. A proud alum of Lawrence Central and former Franklin College football player, Nate’s on-field experience is matched by his commitment to mentoring young athletes. While serving in the U.S. Army, he coached youth football in Texas—instilling discipline, teamwork, and grit in every player. After returning home, he continued shaping young athletes through coaching youth baseball in Greenfield. Now living in Fortville with his two dogs, Nate is excited to bring energy, dedication, and a team-first mindset to the Cougars program.

Zach Allen
Assistant Coach
Greenfield-Central High School running backs coach Zachary Allen began his coaching career in 2024, bringing a lifelong passion for football and a strong connection to the Greenfield community. A native of Greenfield, Indiana, Allen is committed to helping student-athletes grow both on and off the field.
Allen’s football journey began in the fall of 1994 and continued through his senior season in 2002–2003 at Greenfield-Central High School. Throughout his playing career, he competed along the defensive and offensive lines before finishing his high school career as a defensive end. During his senior season, he earned All-Conference honors at defensive end and was a member of a conference championship team, experiences that helped shape his understanding of teamwork, discipline, and competitive football.
As a coach, Allen focuses on developing players to reach their full potential. His coaching philosophy centers on building confidence, discipline, and a strong work ethic, while helping athletes perform at their best in competitive situations. He emphasizes fundamentals, accountability, and preparation, with the goal of equipping players for success at the next level—whether that is in football, academics, or life beyond the game.
Allen takes pride in giving back to the same community and program that helped shape his own football career, working to positively impact the next generation of Greenfield-Central athletes.
James Gilley
Assistant Coach
Coach Gilley is an assistant football coach at Greenfield Central High School, where he works with the Wide Receivers. He also serves as the head coach for the Junior Varsity team. A 2017 graduate of Greenfield Central and former varsity football player, Coach Gilley went on to play collegiate football at Manchester University, where he earned his degree in 2021. He is currently in his third season as a varsity assistant with the Cougars, bringing both passion and experience to the program he once represented as a student-athlete.

Brian Heckley
Assistant Coach
Coach Brian Heckley serves as an Assistant Football Coach at Greenfield Central High School, where he works with the wide receivers and defensive backs. He is entering his 10th season with the Cougars and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program.
A former quarterback at Shenandoah High School (1987–1990), Coach Heckley has dedicated over two decades to developing student-athletes across multiple programs. His coaching journey began at North Kossuth High School in Iowa (1997–2000), where he served as a JV coach and varsity assistant. He went on to hold similar roles at Peru High School (2000–2004) and then returned to his alma mater, Shenandoah High School (2004–2015), continuing his commitment to mentoring young athletes.
Since joining Greenfield Central in 2015, Coach Heckley has been an integral part of the coaching staff, helping to elevate the performance of the team’s skill positions on both sides of the ball. His experience, football IQ, and ability to connect with players make him a valued member of the coaching staff and a positive influence within the Greenfield Central football program.
Tony Sonsini
Assistant Coach
Coach Sonsini has been an educator for 22 years and brings a wealth of coaching experience to the field. He is entering his fourth season at Greenfield-Central High School, where he has served as Linebackers Coach, Special Teams Coordinator, and Offensive Coordinator.
Prior to joining Greenfield-Central, Coach Sonsini spent nine years as an assistant football coach at Richmond High School before serving as Head Football Coach from 2019 to 2021.
In 2011, Coach Sonsini took over as Head Football Coach at National Trail High School. At the time, the program had only four winning seasons since its inception in 1968, had never made the playoffs, and had posted a 2-59 record over the previous six seasons, including a 22-game losing streak. Under his leadership, the program experienced a dramatic turnaround. In 2012, National Trail recorded its first winning season in 15 years with a 6-4 record, earning Coach Sonsini Palladium-Item Coach of the Year honors. In 2013, the team finished 8-3 and earned the first playoff appearance in school history.
Following the 2014 season, Coach Sonsini stepped away from head coaching to focus on his young family while remaining active in the sport. He served as Co-Offensive Coordinator at Earlham College for two seasons and later continued supporting the program as a volunteer assistant.
Coach Sonsini holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Franklin College, where he was a dual-sport athlete in football and baseball; a Master of Arts in Education from Earlham College; and a Building Administration License from Oakland City University.
Coach Sonsini and his wife, Dawn, are the proud parents of three daughters—Madison, Ashtyn, and Kennedy. The Sonsini family has called Greenfield home since 2023 and are proud members of the Greenfield-Central community.
Frank Giufre
Assistant Coach
Frank Giufre brings over 25 years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, and NFL levels to Greenfield Central. He currently serves as Offensive Line Coach, where he focuses on developing fundamentally sound, disciplined, and physical players.
Prior to Greenfield Central, Giufre coached at Fordham University and University of Connecticut, mentoring multiple All-Conference performers and NFL draft selections. He also spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, contributing to two AFC South Championships and an AFC Championship appearance.
A former Division I offensive lineman at Syracuse University, Giufre emphasizes technique, accountability, and daily improvement. Throughout his career, he has been part of championship teams, including a National Championship at the University of Miami in 2001.
Coach Giufre is committed to supporting the program’s mission, building strong relationships with players and families, and helping student-athletes grow both on and off the field.
